AD ROUND UP JANUARY 2022

HAPPY NEW CENTENARY YEAR!

How good it feels to have turned the corner into 2022 and to launch the programme for our Centenary year.

Reflecting a hundred years of theatre is daunting, but we have chosen a list of plays which we hope marks the milestones and characteristics of this independent live theatre company. At the heart of the Loft’s success is a high standard of productions in a theatre with enviable facilities and a repertoire of plays which reads like a potted history of the last 100 years of classic drama and could be described as a true chronicle of our times.

Details of the first half of the year are on the website and booking is open!

We start with a classic masterpiece which has been transported to the present day with extraordinary skill by Lucy Kirkwood, one of our brightest and most successful contemporary playwrights. We shall also feature another contemporary female playwright, Nina Raine. An edgy piece on the theme of rape and consent, perfect for the studio space. A powerful, painful, funny play sifts the evidence from every side and puts justice itself in the dock.

Irish plays have been of significant importance to us over a long period and it seemed fitting to include one of the best in our line-up.

There follow plays by playwrights who have been hallmarks of our repertoire – Wilde, Albee, Coward, Chekhov, Pinter and of course Shakespeare. These offer a rich palette of fun, mischief, wit, high drama where the stakes are high, poignancy, quirkiness and as always classy, classic writing.

New writing has also been a constant feature of our programming and many premieres have graced our stage. 2022 will see such a new work from playwright David Fletcher, our Chairman, whose career has been immersed in the professional theatre. This world premiere will close out the summer with an epic tale, with at its heart the history of Leamington’s famous waters and its physical and emotional impact on the town.

Alongside this programme of productions will be lots of exciting events, so keep an eye on the website and our social media platforms for detail.

Finally, if you want to treat the theatregoer in your life or yourself, the Season Ticket offering for this most special year is a bargain. Available to buy here online: https://lofttheatrecompany.com/get-involved/season-tickets/

We can’t wait to welcome you to celebrate this special year alongside us. You are all part of our success and your support is the key to ensuring that we not only survive, but flourish.
