THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE
WED 12 – SAT 22 JULY
MAIN HOUSE
BY JIM CARTWRIGHT
Directed by Viki Betts
After a spectacular premiere at the National Theatre in 1992, there followed the Laurence Olivier award for Best Comedy and a path that has only been characterised by the rise and rise of Little Voice to international acclaim.
A shy young woman, Little Voice leads a quiet and unassuming life, but hides an amazing talent. She seeks companionship and joy from impersonating music’s most iconic singers from the safety and anonymity of her bedroom, whilst her mother Mari prefers the sound of her own voice, indulging in a life of booze, cheap thrills and seedy men
When Mari starts dating local small time impresario Ray, he forces Little Voice into the spotlight and her transformation astounds everyone. Then the battle between mother and daughter truly erupts.
Funny, brutal, beautiful and sad, Jim Cartwright’s timeless and ultimately uplifting tale is a comic tragedy about finding your voice in a noisy world.
