I am delighted to announce that we have appointed a new chair to the Loft Board of Trustees.

David Fletcher will take up this role with immediate effect.  David is a professional from the arts world and is also a hugely talented author.

As a member of the Loft for over 30 years, he has operationally held a number of key leadership roles with us. He has directed many plays on the Main Stage and in the Studio, most recently Chekhov’s Three Sisters, Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, and a Studio production of one of his own plays The Ballad of Lady Bessy.

We are fortunate indeed to benefit from the kind of professional experience that David brings to us to enrich the makeup of the Board.  His career has been spent in arts management, including Finance Director at the RSC and as Executive Director to Sir Peter Hall and then Stephen Unwin at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. He has now retired and is studying for a PhD in History. David is also a trustee of the Young Vic Theatre, including chair of its Executive Board and a trustee of the Stratford Literary Festival.

We cannot underestimate the amount of professional expertise that is enjoyed by the Board at the Loft. In particular our outgoing Chair, William Wilkinson, who has brought a lifetime of both national and international professional theatre and film experience to us and who has guided the Loft over the last three years as Chairman in such a way that we are now positioned strongly for the future.  We are hugely in Bill’s debt for this contribution and the way he has steered the theatre’s fortunes in such a positive direction.  He gifts his time to this and to directing Loft productions selflessly and with heart and generosity, propelled by his sheer joy in being in and around those engaged in theatrical pursuit.

Happily, Bill is going to remain as a Trustee on the Board.
