Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along Ensemble casting

‘Merrily We Roll Along’

By Stephen Sondheim

Performance dates: 4th – 14th December, 2019

“It is, make no mistake, one of the great musicals of this or any other era ”
Paul Taylor for The Independent

DIRECTOR: James Suckling

Following a sell out revival at the Donmar in 2000, ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ had a five star production at The Menier Chocolate Factory in 2012 and due to unprecedented demand transferred to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre, receiving 7 Olivier award nominations.

Stephen Sondheim’s semi-autobiographical musical turns back the clock on friendship and the high price of success. It is in turns funny and heartbreaking.

Based on the 1934 play, ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ revolves around the central character, Franklin Shepard, who, having once been a talented composer of Broadway musicals, has now abandoned his friends and his song writing career to become a producer in Hollywood.

The musical moves backwards in time, showing snapshots of the most important moments in Frank’s life that shaped the man that he is today; it explores the themes of dreams, ambition, greed and friendship.

We are looking for a cast of around 20; the ensemble is present for many sequences of demanding singing – no ‘dancing’ required though!

Please join us to be part of the cast for this brilliant Sondheim classic.

Rehearsals start Sunday 29th September.

Performances 4th – 14th December.
