Blackbird was written in 2005 by acclaimed Scottish playwright David Harrower. This powerful piece of writing was the winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play

Fifteen years ago, Una and Ray had a relationship, which resulted in a jail sentence and new identity for Ray and psychotherapy for Una. They haven’t set eyes on each other since. Now she’s found him again. A remarkable drama which poses serious questions about society and morality.

Harrower’s beautifully crafted text explores the way in which this complex relationship evolved and reveals the indelible stamp it left on both characters, moulding them so that neither has been able to leave the relationship behind; it has become them. As Una says, “You left me in love”.
